Burnaby crane operator and home builder
Burnaby is home base. Ridgeway Construction & Crane Ltd. is registered here, the work concentrates here, and the city’s permitting offices, soils, and subs are the ones we know best.
Crane work in Burnaby
Tower crane work along the Brentwood corridor and around Metrotown on residential tower projects. Mobile crane work for mid-rise pours in the Edmonds and Burnaby Heights areas, equipment placement on finished commercial buildings, and the steady drip of smaller residential lifts that come with a city densifying around its existing housing stock.
Home building in Burnaby
Custom single-family homes concentrate in the Heights and the Burnaby Lake area — older lots with established trees, meaningful slope, and the soils variation you’d expect from a neighbourhood built in stages over decades. Laneway homes fit some Heights lots well; not all of them, depending on alley access and height-by-grade math.
What’s specific to Burnaby
Permits. Burnaby’s residential permitting is more predictable than Vancouver’s for laneway projects but slower for substantial single-family builds with grading or retaining walls. Build a real timeline buffer in.
Soils. Heights and Burnaby Lake have clay-bearing soils that drain slowly — perimeter drains and damp-proofing on foundations matter more here than they would on sandier ground. See Foundation week: what owners don’t see for what to watch.
Tower-density. A lot of crane work in Burnaby is coordinated around adjacent tower sites — Brentwood has a cluster, Metrotown too. Lift planning around neighbouring cranes and over-occupied airspace is its own discipline; we’ve written about that in The lift plan, in plain language.
